Österby Quilt

History

Österby Manor was founded 1680. In Swedish manor (säteri) is a description of a country manor that is free from taxes and even had the right to collect tax. Unfortunally that law is not in practice anymore.

The present main building was built in the end of the 18th century. The architect was probably Carl Fredrik Sundvall, who also drawed the university library Carolina Rediviva in Uppsala. The original drawings are preserved, something which is very unusual.

Today the estate consists of 36 hectares of land, which of 4 hectare is the garden. There is also a deciduous forest, a spruce cultivation and a quarry to explore.
